This is The X Factor Israel. It is the “holy land” that always receives visitors from Jews, Christians and Muslims.

It’s a land rich in history and controversy, one often fought over by many different parties.

But if there is one thing that unites this world, it’s music.

It’s the same show created by Simon Cowell. Israel’s began in 2013, and is now in its fourth season with the winner to go on and represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest.

So no pressure then for the contestants.

Paul Simon wrote the song for many months between 1963 and 1964.

The lyrics are open to interpretation from whoever is listening to it since it could mean anything to anyone.

And that is the beauty of this song. To think it was a flop initially.

In 1965, the song began to play over the airwaves once again, prompting Tom Wilson, the producer, to remix the track.

Simon and Garfunkel had no idea of what was going on.

From 1967 onwards, the song found itself in movies and in many top ten lists around the world.

Perhaps the words and the melody helps its listener get away from the noise of the world.

To literally enjoy the sound of silence.
