Did you know that Rock’n’Roll is a sport?
It is according to the Work Rock’n’Roll Confederation (WRRC), an international sports federation that governs all aspects of competitive Rock’n’Roll dances likes Rock’n’Roll Acrobatic, Boogie Woogie, Lindy Hop, Bug, and Doublebug.
The WRRC aims to promote the physical training of its members and holds annual dance competitions for different dances.
Everyone brought their dancing shoes to the 2018 WRRC World Masters Boogie Woogie in Helsinborg.
Competitors were broken down into different competency levels, like senior, juniors, and types of dance like fast or slow.
The first place winner for the final main class fast competition was Sondre Olsen Bye and Tatiana Georgiievska from Norway, according to the WRRC’s website.
But all of the performances for that competition were stunning. Let’s check them out:
Juho Pävinen and Mari Munne -Finland
The Finish couple had some seriously fancy footwork when dancing to Big Sandy and the Fly-Rite Boys’ song “Yama Yama Pretty Mama.” Pävinen flipped Munne through his legs, up his chest, and back over his back in a seriously impressive series of movements. The couple won fourth place.
Florent Llamas and Roxane Veron – France
These two look just adorable in their outfits. Like a real couple out at a 1950s sock hop as they danced to Mitch Woods and His Rocket 88s’ song “Long, Lean, and Lanky.” They ended up winning fifth place.
Ludovic Chanton and Stacy Aurel – France
I loved this couple’s performance because they stopped to sing in the middle of their dance. They looked like they were having so much fun dancing. Apparently, the judges thought so too because they won third place.
Masi Saurén and Anna Tyutyunkyuk – Finland
This couple’s performance was super upbeat. It made you want to get out of your own chair while watching the video to dance. They won sixth place for their performance to Don Iang & His Frantic Five’s “Rock Pretty Baby.”
Sondre Olsen Bye and Tatiana Georgiievska – Norway
These two also had super cute outfits that matched. Their dance moves to The Reniers’ “Cool It Baby” were even cuter. They won first place.
Alexey Garilov and Svetlana Gavrilova – Russian Federation
I love the timing that these two had. The song they chose, Jackie Walker’s “Let’s Talk About Us” was also super cute too. They came in seventh.
Thomas Audon and Sophie Allaf – France
This guy cartwheel spun this woman over his back right at the beginning of their performance. These two are seriously impressive. Their dance to The Jive Aces’ “Ride, Ride, Ride” earned them a second place spot.
