There is something attention-grabbing about an impromptu musical performance! Whether it’s a busker or street performer, watching someone make incredible music in such a normal spot as a street corner or mall is always a treat.

While most performers have quite a bit of skill about them, a trio can bring something special to the table.

Typically, a street performer is a solo act. Nevertheless, they often do incredible things, some even making it seem like there is more than one of them! For one group, however, three was the perfect number.

Brendan Kavanaugh is a famous pianist with incredible skill.

With the nickname “Dr. K”, Kavanaugh is a British pianist that loved to play and promote Boogie Woogie! Wikipedia says:

He specializes in playing and promoting the boogie-woogie genre, almost exclusively improvised, often combined with classical, jazz, blues, rock & roll, and traditional Irish music themes.

While it’s one thing to know someone is a good musician, it’s another entirely to hear them play!

Thankfully, Kavanaugh isn’t stingy with his performances. With a YouTube Channel amassing over 1.25 million subscribers, the pianist has certainly made a name for himself. Along with the special niche of playing Boogie Woogie music, Kavanaugh is quite the character!

A few years ago, Kavanaugh decided to get some of his friends together to play as a trio at a local mall.

Kavanaugh and Co. made their way to a local mall and decided to give a group of surprised onlookers the performance of a lifetime! Sitting down to play, they launched into their music with gusto, immediately drawing a crowd.

Each of the three musicians has a special role.

Kavanaugh is the man at the forefront of the screen wearing the black overcoat. Looking the part of “mysterious piano man”, he adds a theatrical element to the whole ordeal! His partner, “Big” John Carter, is seated to Kavanaugh’s left and has both hands on his instrument. In the back, we see Violet the Cannibal (who knows how she got that name) playing the rhythm sticks.

Boogie Woogie has an easy yet high-tempo swing to it that almost forces your body to respond with a nod or dance. People gather in a circle all around the group to listen to the flurry of notes coming from the three musicians.

Kavanaugh’s skill is apparent.

Mostly playing with one hand, it doesn’t seem that he is even aware of his hands doing the work under him. Big John Carter grooves the whole time and is the bass of the whole arrangement. His playing allows Kavanaugh to flourish and look all fancy.

The hidden secret is Violet the Cannibal!

With hair to match her name, Violet unceasingly tip-taps on the floor, the left of the bench, and anything else she can find. She creates the white noise of rhythm with her two wooden drumsticks that the piano players can fit their fun moments of music into.

Nearing the end, you can’t help but feel you were just taken for a ride.
