Bullied boy sings Adele song, gets 4 chair turns on "The Voice"

August 8th, 2019

Jack Vigden is a talented Australian singer with a voice that has a huge range.

Vigden and his family realized how talented he was at an early age. He spent years performing around his hometown of Sydney. Then, in 2011, when he was 14, he tried auditioning for “Australia’s Got Talent.”

Vigden sang Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing.” The judges were stunned by his beautiful high-pitched voice. They all quickly voted to send him to the next round.

Vigden sailed through the competition. He sang “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” from Dreamgirls for the semi-finals show, and he received a standing ovation. Then, in the final showdown, he sang Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain,” and he won the public’s vote and made it to the grand finale. For this, he took a risk and sang an original song called “Yes I Am.”

Vigden ended up winning “Australia’s Got Talent,” and he was awarded a prize of $250,000.

After that, things continued going well for Vigden. He was signed to Sony Music Australia, and he released a debut album titled “Yes I Am.” This album reached number three on the ARIA Music Chart.

Then, in 2012, he released his second album, and it included covers from tons of well-known artists. It didn’t do as well as the first album, though, and it only reached number 23 on the ARIA Music Chart.

When Vigden was 16, he decided to try his luck in the United States.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go well for Vigden in the United States, and he started falling out of love with music.

“I went over there and I just think I hit a lot of roadblocks, and I got exposed to a lot of things that I just don’t think it’s great to be exposed to at that age as well,” Vigden said. “It was just a snowball effect, I think. I just started believing all the negative things people said after I won ‘Australia’s Got Talent.’”

Vigden went back to Australia when he was 17, and he decided to take a break from the music industry—he had sadly lost his love for music.

When Vigden was 22, he decided he was ready to try getting back into the music industry again. And so, he auditioned for “The Voice Australia.”

Vigden chose to sing Adele’s “Hello” for his audition, and he quickly showed that he still had a beautiful voice. All four judges turned their chairs around.

After Vigden finished singing, the judges asked him about his experiences and why he had turned away from the music industry. The judges were all kind to Vigden, and they said they wanted to help him rediscover his passion for music. Vigden also explained that one of the reasons he chose to audition for “The Voice” was because he wanted a mentor.

Vigden chose Coach Guy as his mentor, and Guy said he would help Vigden fall back in love with music.

“I don’t want to make you silly promises, but what I really want to do is help you fall in love with music again.”

Vigden made it to the finals, but he didn’t end up winning “The Voice.” Still, Vigden was grateful for his experience on the show, and he said it helped heal him.

“This has just honestly been the most incredible experience of my life. It’s just been so healing and it’s just — there is no words to describe it. I just want to thank everyone, the whole team, Guy, all of you, just everyone,” he said.
