Street busker starts singing 'Perfect' by Ed Sheeran - then pauses only to hear crowd singing back

Ladies and gentlemen, you’re going to want to remember this name – Jacob Koopman.

Recently, a video was uploaded to YouTube of a young street busker named Jacob Koopman. And since it was shared, it’s been viewed over 2.4 million times with no signs of slowing down.

Jacob Koopman is from Dublin, Ireland and has family roots in Bali. According to his Facebook page, the musician’s genres of choice are indie, alternative, pop, and rock. As it turns out, music has basically been in his blood since the day he was born.

“Jacob’s Bali roots provides him with an indie pop style but his early influences such as Dave Grohl and Chris Cornell give an edge to his island vibe. He is a Singer/Songwriter who started playing drums at 9 years old. Self taught he also plays the guitar and bass. Playing a mixture of original and cover music Jacob can be found playing venues around Ireland along with paying his dues by busking,” reads his bio.

Even though Jacob is no stranger to music, the recent viral video is really putting his name on the map.

The five-minute video begins with Jacob standing in the streets of Dublin holding his guitar. He has amplifiers set up so that the ever-growing crowd can hear him clearly. He announces to the people around him that he’ll be playing an Ed Sheeran song next – ‘Perfect’.

With the first few notes of the song, the crowd already starts to scream with excitement and anticipation of what’s to come. Not only is the Ed Sheeran song a mega-hit, but it was about to be performed by another super talented musician right in front of them.

A few more seconds into his performance, more and more people gather. Then – the entire crowd starts to join in with the vocals.

Not only did the crowd start to join in with the singing, but people couldn’t seem to hold back from dancing. Some grabbed a partner and started to slow dance while others stood in a line and swayed to the rhythm of the song.

As the crowd sang along, it garnished the attention of more and more onlookers. That’s when Jacob decided to do something that makes the video even that more spectacular…

One minute into the song, Jacob stops singing and cuts his amplifiers and speakers. The crowd’s singing continues to ring into the air in perfect harmony.

The song continues on and on with Jacob just watching in the background. The crowd sways back and forth singing all the lyrics without missing a word. It’s clear that Ed Sheeran is very popular in Ireland because it seems every person knows his song by heart!

After letting the crowd have the spotlight for a minute or two, Jacob comes back on over the speaker with his smooth voice and beautifully-strummed acoustic guitar. Jacob’s rendition of the hit pop song is absolutely gorgeous and spot-on. The crowd never stops singing the entire time.

Jacob really belts it out during the last few moments of the song and you can feel the passion behind his voice. Singing is clearly this young man’s calling.

The video ends with a very impressed and satisfied crowd. What a beautiful moment and amazing sing-along between strangers. Music truly brings people together, doesn’t it?
