Bowed instruments are not so easy to learn.

Violin is a perfect example of a sensitive and complex instrument that requires a lot of practice and good lessons to master. Still, those who are up to the challenge can end up playing beautiful tunes!

When you add some beatboxing into that, the result is Bryson Andres’ street act.

Andres is a talented violinist of Filipino descent who became popular after he bought an electric violin and his covers of popular songs went viral.

But let’s go back to the start. Andres grew up in Alaska with his grandparents and his first violin was a gift from his estranged father. He got it at the age of 12. Andres was drawn in immediately, and that’s when his interest in music grew stronger.

As this video proves, his many hours of practicing certainly paid off—and now more than 160,000 people are subscribed to his YouTube channel.

He can often be seen playing on the streets of Spokane, Washington—but his road to fame wasn’t easy. Andres overcame many defeats, but as he describes, the violin was always a driving force in his life.

Andres only needs his electric violin and a loop pedal to put on a great show.

His stage is any street he can think of, and there aren’t many things for him to carry around: just a black electric violin and a loop pedal.

The rest is pure talent and hours of practice. In this video, Andres plays his cover of One Republic’s “Secrets.” This man seems to be a master of violin, looping and pedal effects to sound like a band. What a wonderful performance! His music is not just music, as it almost sounds like a story—it paints a picture of all the struggles he went through before becoming a one-man-band everyone wants to hear. It’s impressive to see a musician capable of transmitting a whole range of emotions through an instrument.

The funniest part of the video was when an old lady approached his violin box and started organizing the money that was inside.

At first, it looked as if she wanted to take it from him—but fortunately, she was simply putting it in better order. All that time Andres continued to play. He didn’t even blink at the thought that someone might take his money!

Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone who knew how to play an instrument went out and played it for fun?

That’s the thought that this video provokes.

It reminded us, once again, how much fun it is to play an instrument just for the sake of playing it. Bryson’s joy is inspirational and his audience feels it. We’re proud to be watching such a great role model for anyone who wants to learn to play the violin—the serenity is overflowing. Andres’ music sounds as if his strings were connected directly to his heart.

Since it was posted, the video has earned almost six million YouTube views.

The video was uploaded in 2012, and it’s not the only One Republic song Andres has covered.

If you liked his music, you can support him on his website. There you’ll find interesting covers of Sia’s “Chandelier,” the hits song “Pillow Talk” and “You Are The Reason” by Calum Scott, “Lovely” by Billie Eilish and many more. We hope this man will soon have a bigger stage because he’ll blow the roof off of it!
