Although there are plenty of talented people in the world, not all of them actually get onstage in front of an audience.

And it’s not too hard to predict why that is! After all, it takes a lot of courage and plenty of vulnerability to show your talents with an entire audience of strangers.

For those reasons and others, plenty of incredible people may keep their talents to themselves their entire lives. Fortunately, a whole new crop of competition shows has encouraged people to put themselves out there in the hopes of changing their lives.

And one audition in particular showed this so well.

The clip in question is from The X Factor’s 2010 season.

The contestant is Cher Lloyd, a 16-year-old who is clearly very nervous about the entire situation. Regardless, she’s excited to perform and has her entire family with her to provide some much-needed emotional support.

After a few auditions before her, she’s finally ready to go out onstage and introduce herself to the judges.

Almost immediately, the judges comment on her unusual first name!

After a quick introduction, she explains that she’s from Malvern in Worcestershire—and the crowd cheers.

Even if she’s nervous, her enthusiasm and energy are definitely clear enough for everyone to see. Finally, she explains that she’s going to be singing “Turn My Swag On” by Soulja Boy, except that she’s going to be singing Keri Hilson’s version of it.

Although the song seems like an unusual choice, all of the judges nod and clear the way for her to perform.

A moment later, the backing music starts playing… and Lloyd’s voice takes off immediately!

Even though nobody knew what to expect from this shy teen, it’s clear that she’s put in plenty of hours singing!

Right from the beginning, her voice climbs up and down the scale with no problem at all! Even though she’s so young, she shows so much control over her voice.

Aside from all the controls she has over her singing, she also has a ton of attitude and sassiness on the performance aspect which translates so perfectly. The performance only gets more and more confident as it goes along, right up until the ending.

When it’s all over, the crowd gives her a standing ovation!

After that, it’s time for the judges to give her their feedback and suggestions.

When it’s done, the first comment that one of the judges gives is that it was her favorite audition that she’d seen so far! Next, they tell her that even though she’s nervous, her audition was still amazing in spite of it all.
