Man invites college choir to sing in his grain silo and the sound is otherworldly
A grain silo might be a random singing location but there's no denying the acoustics are unbeatable.

If you enjoy choir music, you’ll love the Bethel College Choir.

For generations, this concert choir has showcased outstanding performances to audiences across the world.

The choir has won numerous awards, including an Emmy award.

The choir’s talented vocalists have also performed at prestigious events, such as the Southwest Regional Convention of the American Choral Directors Association.

With this level of fame and respect, you’d expect the Bethel College Choir to be picky about its venues.

But in one video, the choir stepped out of their normal (and usually pretty clean) environment for something a little more back-to-roots: a grain bin.

That’s right – a grain bin. When YouTuber Farmer Derek got a new grain bin on his farm, he decided to honor the occasion and invite the Bethel College Choir to stand inside it and have a good sing.

Derek promises that the acoustics in the bin are amazing, and there’s video proof of this.

The video starts with the choir, kitted out in suits and formal evening dresses, traipsing through the farm to reach Derek’s grain silo.

It does make a bit of a funny image, you have to admit.

Derek asks a few choir members whether they’ve sung in a grain bin before, and the overwhelming answer is “no”. One member, however, surprises him by saying that she has!

It’s not all muck and mud, though, the performers are at least given a red carpet entrance.

Finally, the choir members take the stage in the grain bin (which is surprisingly huge), and the performance can begin.

The song opens with a solo trumpet piece – and the way it echos around the grain bin is beautiful, otherworldly, and a little bit eerie.

Led by the conductor, the choir launches into the popular gospel song “Down to the River to Pray”.

You won’t have heard anything like this. The grain tank, being such a large, empty, enclosed space, bounces the angelic musical voices off its walls.

The result is that we hear each voice magnified, making for a chillingly beautiful song that raises the hairs on your arms.

And when the young men join in, and the choir sings in harmony, the sound is mesmerizing.

Unsurprisingly, the video proved hugely popular, with more than 2 million views.

Perhaps many of the video’s viewers tuned in for the novelty of a choir singing in a grain silo, but most were won over by the beauty of the performance.

More than 3,000 people commented beneath the video, with many expressing their love for the chosen song and their appreciation for the performance.
