Couples’ swing dance performance shows the art form is alive and better than ever

July 13th, 2020

It’s no secret that we get excited when the things we love from the past get revived.

This is true for music and dancing, for example. It’s not hard to make a comparison between how things were and how things are now. We’re lucky to be able to always bring back music and various dance styles, and it’s all done in a fun way.

If you remember swing dance, then you’ll love to see some of these couples bringing excellent swing dancing into the 21st century.

Music is a lot like a time machine. It spans through decades and brings back the best from the past.

Swing dance is actually a group of dances that developed with the swing style of jazz music in the 1920s to 1940s.

There were hundreds of styles of swing dancing during the swing era and some of them have survived the test of time. Today we can see couples dancing Lindy Hop, Balboa, Collegiate Shag, or the Charleston. And is there any better place to celebrate all these dances, than at the Sofia Swing Dance Festival?

The festival was organized in 2017 by Lindy Hop Bulgaria, one of the first Bulgarian swing dance communities.

The organization aims to popularize swing dance culture in Bulgaria. We found a video that will give viewers a glimpse of the Advanced Jack and Jill Competition.

The dancing is fast, and in the background, you can hear the Heart of Dixie Band playing.

As mentioned, the performance is from the finals of the Advanced Jack and Jill round.

These couples mean serious business! The way they dance makes it hard to resist the feeling that you’ve been taken back to the 50s. We loved the contemporary twist, though. Their outfits and hairstyles portray the fashion of today. It is a nice way of combining different times and getting the best of both worlds. It’s nice to know you can always go on a time travel through music, but it’s good to be able to come back to the present too.

Living in the present but keeping the past in mind is the best way of living.

Life is about involving yourself, being inspired and taking chances. These couples seem to be greatly inspired, and the way they dance is phenomenal.

There were some moments when we thought they must have wheels on the bottom of their shoes—there’s no other explanation to how can someone glide across the floor so smoothly!

That’s why swing dance is so impressive. It seems like they’re floating in the air! See it for yourself, it must be really nice to know how to do it.

Everyone in the room is so happy.

The atmosphere is indescribable—maybe it’s the music, maybe it’s the dancing, or maybe it’s everything combined.

It all bursts with happiness and joy. Everyone is laughing and cheering! In this round, only five couples made it through to the very end.

They are all cute together and have incredible chemistry.

In addition to their great dancing, they’re also engaging the audience while they dance.

In the end, Alexey Kazennov and Martina Beinaryte took home the trophy.

All the couples were excellent in our opinion, and it all came down to tiny nuances in terms of deciding the winner.

Judging by the video’s view count, the internet agrees with us! All the couples are professional dancers heavily involved in swing culture.

It’s great that communities around the world are keeping this dance tradition alive!

We wish them all success and look forward to more similar festivals.
