Dance duo’s antics during swing performance steal the show

September 17th, 2020

A lot of people don’t know that Swing is a combination of several dance styles. It first appeared in the 1920s and remained highly popular throughout the 1940s. That era is referred to as the “swing period.” Set to Jazz, a lot of people enjoyed going to clubs. But Swing was also performed by many professional dancers who spent their lives entertaining people.

The many styles of Swing

As mentioned, Swing is a culmination of several dance styles. At the same time, it’s what inspired new forms including the Jitterbug. It also has characteristics of other dances like the Carolina Shag, Modern Jive, Hand Dancing, and even Rock and Roll.

Incredible diversity

Considering that Swing is so diverse, people have some degree of creative freedom when dancing this style. And that’s what two guys did. They showed off their talent in a funny way.

Marcus and Rasmus

That’s their names. In a video that’s now been viewed more than 105,000 times, you first see the men take the stage. Dressed in high-water trousers, white socks, and white shirts, they look as though they stepped out of the past.

Great music

They chose the song Georgia Slop to perform at the 2017 Rock That Swing Festival held at the Deutsches Theater. And what they were about to do would surprise everyone. But before dancing, they had to give each other a unique hand slap for good luck.

Ready to go

Next, they take their places center stage facing the audience. At first, it looks as though they’re shaking their bodies as a warm-up but quickly, you realize that’s the start of their performance. It all looks uncoordinated, which makes you wonder if they’re any good.

Then things heat up

After jiggling around and with the music blaring, these two guys get into the swing of things…no pun intended. With some fancy footwork, they move to the back and then to the front of the stage. Although they’re not perfectly synchronized, they grab attention

Having a blast

As you watch the two of them dance, you can’t help but smile. After all, they’re having a great time. But what makes this performance even better is that they add some unusual moves to the piece. At one point, they both appear to be skipping rope.

Super talented

The longer the two of them dance…the tighter the choreography becomes. Within just a minute after the music starts, their moves mirror each other. Keeping step to the beat, there’s no question they’ve had a lot of training.

Telling a story

Between their impeccable dance moves, arm and hand gestures, and facial expressions, it’s easy to see they’re telling a story and a funny one at that. That makes the performance even more enjoyable. All around, they’re a joy to watch.

A fantastic job

For someone to do the Swing like these guys, they’d need some athletic ability. It takes a lot of physical stamina and dance skill to pull off what they did. Overall, these two guys did a great job and the audience loved them.
