Dwight Dissels Gets Four-Chair Turn On 'The Voice'

September 5th, 2019

Though there’s plenty of different versions of The Voice to choose from today, few people know that it all started in Holland.

While we may all be familiar with the American version, The Voice of Holland is the show that kicked the whole thing off in 2010.

The series is essentially a rival or competing show for American Idol, and it does that by switching up the format a bit. On Idol, the contestants face the judges, sing and then are voted forward or cut after that.

On The Voice franchise, things are a little bit more complicated.

Instead of facing the judges when they first come out, contestants are asked to do “blind auditions.”

In these sessions, the judges have their backs turned while whoever is on stage sings their heart out. If the judges like what they hear, they can hit their buzzers to turn around.

After that, the judges compete to recruit the singer to their respective teams—because each of the judges is competing among themselves to win the show as the best vocal coach. Like Idol, the contestants also compete to win the show overall.

Unlike so many other shows, this arrangement allows for a big element of surprise.

And that’s exactly what happened recently with one very talented contestant.

The man’s name was Dwight Dissels, and the audition took place on The Voice of Holland’s 2016 season. Like any other audition, Dissels walked out onstage while all the judges were turned around.

Before he starts singing, the drummer onstage strikes a four count to set the rhythm. With that, Dissels starts soulfully belting the first notes to Boyz II Men’s “End of the Road.” Everyone recognizes the song immediately, and it doesn’t take long to get a reaction.

After just the first couple notes, Dissels has already gotten his first judge to turn around!

But the real shocker is that another two judges turn around immediately afterwards!

As he continues the song, Dissels proves that it wasn’t just a flashy intro with nothing else behind it—every note that this guy sings is absolutely pitch perfect.

After about 10 more seconds, he gets his fourth judge to turn around for a complete four-chair turn! Though there have been some talented performers on the show over the years, it’s so rare to turn all the judges as fast as he did.

Still, the performance isn’t over yet.

As the song continues, Dissels’ voice only soars higher and higher.

The music picks up and before long the judges are hooting and hollering with enthusiasm for his performance.

While many contestants on these shows display raw talent that needs to be coached, Dissels’ voice comes off as so polished and so professional. By the end, all of the judges are dancing and singing along.

When it’s all over, Dissels gets a massive round of applause from the audience!

Needless to say, this performance is one of the best we’ve ever seen on The Voice—and it’s definitely making rounds on the internet.

While shows like this are great for breaking new talent, it’s still rare to meet somebody who is so confident and so polished before even working with the judges. Though it might go without saying, we’re guessing that we’re going to be seeing more of Dissels in the music industry in the future.
