Elderly Woman Sits At Street Piano And Plays Like A Goddess

April 1st, 2021

Brendan Kavanagh (aka “Dr. K”) is a boogie-woogie piano master who often uploads performances on his YouTube channel.

Sometimes he plays at home, other times on public pianos that could be found throughout England.

Pianos in public

There are public pianos all around the world. No doubt you’ve even seen one at a mall or airport.

But London seems to have quite a few that have been donated by various organizations, and they can often be found in train stations.

Dr. K. is famous for his performances throughout London, but his uploads of other people’s performances have been even more popular from time to time.

Over 18 million people watched a construction worker tickle the keys two years ago.

But that wasn’t the only time he uploaded a video of someone else.

An impromptu performance

She’s since received over 2 million views and lots of complimentary comments:

“Look at how beautiful and put together she is! Got the makeup, nails and jewelry done just right. Confident and rocking the keys like she’s 20 years old. I just love her!” said a viewer.

#Platform88

As you can see from the sign on the side, the piano is part of the #platform88 initiative between piano-makers Yamaha Music and Transport for London.

It placed 3 pianos in stations throughout London for customers to play.

“The two-year project named #Platform88 takes its name from the number of keys on a standard piano and provides opportunities for musicians to play and entertain their fellow passengers,” according to the website.

Was it staged?

While performances by others uploaded by Dr. K. may or may not have been “staged,” it hardly matters.

The point of the piano is to let passersby hear music in unlikely places and whose behind the keys are beside the point.

It does, however, appear that the woman had a front-row fan in Dr. K.

The video was simply captioned:

“Dr K discovers an old lady on the station piano who plays stride and ragtime like a goddess (pre lockdown vid).”

Quite a show

Not only did the mystery woman stop people in their tracks with her skills but she’s delighted online viewers, especially when she decided to take her ring off during the performance after it started sliding off of her finger without missing a beat!

“She took a ring off while playing and didn’t miss a note. I think she’s awesome!” said a stunned commenter.

Her playing is beyond fantastic, though she seems to take the whole outing in stride.

This certainly isn’t the first time she’s put on an epic show.
