Do you have a favorite kind of music?
Though it goes without saying, music is one of life’s greatest gifts. There are so many different styles and so many different moods to listen to. When we’re feeling happy, music can help us celebrate and can lift our spirits even higher. When you’re down or sad, we can turn to music for comfort and guidance. And when we’re in a new place just walking around the street, we sometimes run into musical performances that make us pay more attention to the world around us.
That’s definitely the case for the performer in this video.
The man in today’s story is Imad Fares, a New Flamenco guitarist based primarily out of Poland.
He’s extremely talented at acoustic guitar and uses many different styles in his playing, including things like jazz, latin and world music. Fares released his first album called Mediterranean Tango in 2013, available on Soundcloud, iTunes and Amazon. Still, like many performers in general (particularly artists from the ‘60s), Fares got his start as a street performer.
And one of Fares’ videos has made a huge impression on the internet.
As the clip begins, Fares is seen sitting on a chair in front of a fountain as people walk by.
After a moment, he strums a few chords and the people walking by start to watch. Before long, Fares is setting into some incredibly fast and intricate acoustic finger-picked guitar. Before long, a woman stops to look at his information and to pick up one of his CDs! Although it’s clear that he has plenty of technical talent, Fares still has so much soul in his music as well.
But the song only builds in intensity as it goes on.
The song he’s playing is called “Gypsy Kings” and it’s as exciting as any street performance we’ve ever seen.
After a few more crescendoes, Fares wraps up his performance and the crowd applauds. All told, the video has approximately 18 million views on YouTube and has been shared all over Facebook. Aside from this clip, however, Fares also has many other street performances that have made the rounds on the internet. For anyone who is into Fares’ style, he also has his own YouTube channel where he posts many of his performances.
Another one that’s particularly inspiring his his song called “Spirit of Goodwill.”
The video was filmed in Krakow, Poland and features even more of Fares’ signature string slapping and finger-picking style. Throughout the clip, he moves his fingers furiously over the neck of the guitar, spinning out beautiful harmonies and flurries of notes while onlookers pass by.
Like the other song, things start out a little more slowly but build in intensity and atmosphere as the clip continues. At the end, Fares finishes up with the most intense musical section of all.
When it’s over, the crowd applauds once again.
As these clips show, there’s no shortage of musical talent all around us—sometimes you just have to look in the street.
Although it can be hard to follow your dream at any cost, performers like Fares show that if you have enough talent and enough passion, you can make your dream a reality. If you liked these performances, definitely check out his YouTube channel and his Facebook for more of his videos—many of the ones on Facebook already have millions of views! Although there’s no guarantee when someone chooses to live an artistic life, the people who are talented deserve all the support and exposure that they can get.
Thanks for the inspiring performances, Imad! Check out the full video below:
