If you aren’t into jitterbug or 1980s music, the song, “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” might not sound familiar. Yet for millions, this 1984 hit sung by the English duo Wham! was the song they couldn’t wait to hear on the radio. It’s fast and lively, and just all-around fun.

Remember that in the 1980s, music was very different than it is today. And along with that, people did some pretty funky dances. This was a great era for the music scene.

It’s super catchy

Once you hear this song, it’s hard to sit still. With a catchy beat, you’ll find your feet tapping and your hips swaying before you know it. Not only was it popular immediately following its release but it’s still a bit hit today for people who love the oldies.

Producing a video

One young man loves this song and he loves to dance. So, he came up with the idea to put the two together. But he didn’t want to do something ordinary … instead, he went all out to produce an amazing video that since being uploaded to social media has garnered more than 85,000 views.

His venue of choice

This young man’s name is Preston Leatherman. To make the coolest video possible, he headed to the local mall where he knew a lot of people would be shopping. He brought along his iPod for the music.

Getting things started

His first stop was to an eatery inside the mall. The place was filled with wall-to-wall people enjoying a bite to eat, just what Preston hoped for. Then, with the music blaring in his ears, he began to dance while everyone looked on, unsure of what they were witnessing.

Moving on

Preston then headed to a department store. At first, people tried to ignore him, possibly thinking this guy had lost his mind. But that didn’t stop him from giving a class act performance.

Is anyone paying attention?

His next stop was a computer store. While he danced away to “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go,” again, no one pays attention. It was as though seeing a guy dancing in a shopping mall was a common occurrence.

The center of the mall

Well, Preston decided he needed a larger audience. So, he stepped out into the middle of the mall. But again, you can see in the video that everyone’s going about their business as though he didn’t exist.

A little bit of luck

After making his way to a jewelry store, Preston finally got noticed. One of the store’s employees not only watched him dance but also got involved … sort of. People really need to lighten up.

More stops to make

Throughout the video, you see Preston make his way from one location to another. Some of his other stops included a shoe store, a second eatery, a men’s clothing department, the perfume section of a high-end store, and he even danced while skating on the indoor ice rink. The best part is watching people’s reactions or nonreactions to his dancing.

This is one happy guy

Regardless of where Preston danced, he always had a huge smile on his face. There’s no question he had the time of his life even if no one else did. Watching him cut loose without a care in the world is both inspiring and hilarious.
