Melissa Baker thought she had planned the perfect first dance.
Baker loved country music, and so she knew she wanted her first dance to be to a country song. Her favorite artist is Mark Wills, so she naturally chose one of his songs: “Like There’s No Yesterday.”
Little did Baker know, her new husband Brad Hewitt had planned a huge surprise for her.
When it was time for the first dance, Baker and Hewitt took to the dance floor. The pair stood in the middle of the floor and waited while the DJ announced the name of the song.
“Now, they have chosen a very special song for this dance because it is from one of their most favorite artists, and that of course is Mark Wills,” the DJ said.
The song started playing over the ballroom’s speakers, and Baker and Hewitt began dancing. Both smiled brightly as they danced together.
Suddenly, the music cut out. The DJ apologized, saying there were technical difficulties. Baker looked a bit confused, but she stayed in the same spot on the dance floor, waiting for the music to come back on.
Hewitt strategically maneuvered his wife so her back was to the stage. And so, Baker didn’t realize somebody was climbing onto the stage behind her: Mark Wills himself!
Wills began singing, and Baker turned around. When she saw who was on the stage, she screamed!
All of Baker and Hewitt’s family members clapped and cheered. They were all so happy Hewitt’s surprise had worked.
Wills began singing his famous song, and Hewitt and Baker continued doing their first dance. Baker couldn’t stop grinning—she was so amazed by her husband’s incredible surprise.
After the song ended, Baker got to meet her idol. The DJ also announced that Wills would be coming back out to perform more songs later in the wedding.
The video of Baker’s surprise quickly went viral, receiving over 26 million views. Everyone was touched by the lengths Hewitt went to make his wife happy.
“What a beautiful moment. He wanted to let his wife know how much he loves her and that he is ‘always’ thinking about ‘her’ before himself; so he gave her something that she will always remember,” one YouTube user wrote.
Another user joked that this video was clearly sponsored by Kleenex.
It has now been three years since Hewitt and Baker got married, and they’re doing great! The couple are still completely in love, and they had their first child together, a little boy.
In March 2019, Baker shared a sweet Instagram photo to commemorate their third anniversary.
