No matter what city in the world you might happen to visiting, chances are you’re likely to see a street performer.
Though it goes without saying, launching an artistic career is a difficult process.
Though you may have a ton of talent, you also need to make sure that people know who you are and that you build a following or a fan base to promote yourself. For those reasons and others, artists often take their performances to the streets to drum up awareness and to raise a little money.
Still, sometimes these performances have an incredible effect on the people who hear them.
Though we’ve all definitely stopped to listen to someone play music before, it’s a little different when something moves us enough to join in.
Most of the time, this just means clapping along or maybe dancing a little bit—but then again, not all of us are professional musicians or dancers.
In one performance that happened in Italy, however, someone who happened to be passing by was a professional dancer! The clip in question was loaded onto YouTube in 2016 and it all begins with a street performer playing the violin.
But what happens next has made this clip go viral.
The song that the performer is playing is from the French film Amélie.
Though there’s a small crowd gathered to watch the man play, the camera focuses in mainly on a young woman wearing a light blue dress.
A moment later, her father can be heard yelling something at her in Arabic behind the camera. As it turns out, he’s encouraging her to do something—please Rema, please do it! Do it for me! Although she hesitates for a moment, she finally relents.
After that, she’s doing some incredible ballet moves to the violinist’s music in the street!
The whole time as the melancholy music plays, the young woman does a beautiful ballet routine right along with it.
The entire time her moves are so graceful and her interpretation of the music seems to fit perfectly with the emotions of the song. By this point, more people have stopped to watch the performance.
At the end of everything, she strikes one final pose and everybody who has gathered bursts out into applause. Everybody who was there knew they’d seen something truly special.
Since the video was posted on YouTube, it has earned more than four million views!
After watching this video, it’s clear to see why it’s been able to touch so many people’s hearts.
It’s clear that music and performance have the power to touch us in a deep way. Although the violinist in the video was an Italian man and the ballerina was a Palestinian woman, the two of them were able to bridge language and culture to share an incredibly moving moment that everyone around them could participate in as well.
After seeing this, we’re reminded of just how important it can be to slow down and appreciate all the beauty around us that we might fail to notice otherwise.
