If you like reality competition shows, you’ve probably seen quite a few—and you know just how emotional they can be sometimes.

Although being an artist or following your creative dreams is never is easy, it’s particularly hard to get the courage or the strength to perform in front of thousands or millions of people.

Still, some people manage to find the confidence to do so, or else they have something within them driving them to push beyond their boundaries. In some cases, those performances are the ones that are the most moving of them all.

At least, that was the case for this audition in particular.

The performance we’re talking about came from the 2018 season of The X Factor UK.

For those who don’t know, the show is quite similar to the Got Talent franchise. In each episode, contestants come on to perform their talent, whatever it may be. Like any other episode, it begins with the contestant walking out on stage to applause from the crowd.

After that, he introduces himself to the judges as J-Sol and explains that he’s from East London. He’s only 25 years old and the song he’s performing is an original.

When the judges ask him why he was performing that year, he chokes up a little bit.

As J-Sol explains, he recently lost his mother in 2015.

Though she’d always encouraged him to go on The X Factor, he never wanted to before and was always nervous about it. Regardless, he finally got up the courage to go on the show to inspire others and to pay tribute to his mother.

With all that said, the audience gives him another huge round of applause. The judges ask him what his mother’s day was, to which he replies Victoria.

When it’s all over, everybody clears the way for him to perform.

Finally, the backing music starts playing and J-Sol takes his glasses off.

As soon as the it starts, it’s clear that J-Sol’s voice is beautiful. The song he wrote is called “Bullet In My Heart” and the lyrics describe the immense pain that he feels missing his mom.

As the song continues, it’s clear he’s put so much soul and heart into it. As the melody changes, J-Sol’s voice soars from low to high with ease, and partway through the audience gives him a spontaneous round of applause.

When it’s all over, all the judges give him a huge round of applause!

Before long, the judges are coming on stage to give him a hug and to support him. From the very beginning, the judges tell him that his passion and incredible voice resounded with everyone!

Needless to say, the feedback portion is emotional for nearly everyone in the audience. When it’s all over, J-Sol gets his four yeses and the crowd gives another round of applause.

Although the audition is bittersweet, there’s still something incredibly moving about the whole thing.

At the very end, even judge Simon Cowell gives J-Sol a hug as well—which is so rare! Needless to say, J-Sol should’ve gone on the show earlier so that his mom could’ve seen it. Still, he honored her memory by fulfilling her wishes in the end.
