NYC Street Performer Plays Amazing James Brown Cover

August 30th, 2019

If you live in a big city, chances are you’ve seen some pretty incredible things over the years.

Because big cities attract so many different kinds of people, there’s no telling what kind of experiences you’ll have on your way to work.

Aside from all the beautiful architecture and cultural history there is to take in, you may also see street performers plying their trade. Although long-time city dwellers are liable to avoid or ignore many of these performers, sometimes they’re so talented that we have no choice but to stop and watch.

And that’s exactly what happened in this video.

The performer in question was Jalib Johnson, a performer who has his own Facebook page promoting his music.

Though he’s still a young man, Johnson has an incredibly soulful voice that speaks to a wisdom well beyond his years.

Though he sings with a raspiness and a soulfulness, he also plays guitar with incredible verve and originality as well. All of this became clear to his fellow subway passengers in one impromptu performance posted on YouTube in 2019.

Before he started playing, everybody was just sitting there waiting for the subway.

As soon as the clip begins, though, Johnson plays an incredible guitar run for everyone else on the platform.

While everyone around is already enraptured just from his guitar skills, his voice stuns everyone even more! The song he’s singing is “It’s a Man’s World” by James Brown.

Even though Brown earned the nickname of “The Hardest Working Man in Show Business” for his incredible energies and talents, Johnson shows that he’s definitely doing the original song justice!

Before long, everyone on the platform has pulled out their phones and is filming the performance.

As the song continues, Johnson drops back into an incredible guitar solo.

Though he’s already gathered an enormous crowd, more and more people come by to drop money into his guitar case.

When it’s finally all over, several people from the crowd approach him to shake his hand and give him words of encouragement. Since the video was uploaded, it has since earned itself some nine million views on YouTube.

Although he seems to be just getting started, we’re all expecting a lot more from Johnson in the future.

For anyone who was a big fan of this performance, be sure to check out Johnson on all of his social media channels.

Aside from his Facebook, he also has a YouTube channel with several performances on it as well (including another take of the same James Brown song).

If you’re really thirsty for another one of these performances, he has one other performance on another YouTube channel performing “Red House,” a classic Jimi Hendrix blues song. Although there’s not many people who can cover Hendrix and do him justice, he definitely manages that here!

Although it can be hard to make a life as a creative artist, Johnson’s talent shines through even from so few performances!

Needless to say, his audience already likes what they’re seeing—and he can only go up from here. Definitely encourage him with your support and send this video to your friends.
