This is her rendition of the Leonard Cohen classic, “Hallelujah”.

From Leonard Cohen’s 1984 album Various Positions, it wasn’t really a success until other artists began covering the song, finally peaking in popularity after it was used in the animated film Shrek.

Janet Devlin keeps it simple and straightforward.

Seated on a leather couch wearing a white top and sneakers, she sits cross legged in front of a microphone, her striking features a perfect compliment to her stunning voice.

“Well I’ve heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don’t really care for music, do you?
Well it goes like this
The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah”

For a woman influenced by the rock side of music, she sings with a softer tone. Angelic, and perfect for the gospel style of the song.

A viewer commented,

As a Veteran that suffers from PTSD… I have to say your voice is Amazingly Soothing and makes all the demons from PTSD go away… this is not easy for me to publicly post… your voice is amazing…

That’s saying something. Janet has performed for huge crowds, for famous people, and even charity but to be able to reach out because of her talents to someone who is struggling says a lot as to how amazing a singer she is.

“You literally have the voice of an angel.”

Says another fan. Hard to disagree.

It’s one of those voices that seem to break the darkness one is going through.

Janet joined The X Factor in 2011 performing an Elton John song “Your song” which impressed all four judges, advancing her to the next round. She then performed Coldplay’s “Fix You” which then made her move on to the next round by mentor Kelly Rowland. Courtney Love, wife of the late Kurt Cobain, has stated in interviews that Janet and her family may be distant relatives of her late husband, Cobain.

The discovery was made when Courtney had to go through the Cobain family tree during her ongoing battle with the band Nirvana’s legacy. Love-Cobain made the statement after offering to allow X Factor contestants to cover Nirvana songs in tweets directed to Simon Cowell.

Awesome stuff.

Janet and her family were unaware of the connection. Though it’s obvious to see the musical gene in her, plus her love for the alternative grunge scene seems to cement the fact that she has Cobain in her. Cool stuff.

Janet’s “Hallelujah” would have made Kurt Cobain and Leonard Cohen proud. She has many dazzling covers of hits, but the best part is that she has her own album, Confessional. A collection of Janet’s talent for all to enjoy. Yes please.
