Everybody remembers when “The Cup Song” was sweeping around the internet.
For anyone who needs a refresher, the song was made famous by Anna Kendrick and it appeared in the movie Pitch Perfect.
What many people don’t know, however, is that the song is actually an interpretation of a song from 1931 called “When I’m Gone” by the Carter Family. In any event, the movie gave the song a whole new life—and it remains popular to this day.
So popular, in fact, that people often use it to audition on reality singing competition shows!
That was definitely the case on the 2014 season of The Voice Kids.
Much like the original show The Voice, The Voice Kids has contestants come out in front of a panel of judges who have their backs turned to the stage. After that, the person onstage performs and tries to get the judges to hit their buzzers, turn around and invite them to be on their team!
Though The Voice Kids is obviously just a show set aside specifically for younger contestants, that usually means kids who are at least in their early teens.
Still, this performer was so incredibly young!
Her name was Larissa and she had a performance that rocked the whole crowd.
As the clip begins, she walks out onstage with a plastic cup in her hand. Just like the movie Pitch Perfect, Larissa starts clapping and slapping the cup, picking it up and setting it down to the rhythm to serve as the backing track.
A few moments later, she starts singing the song in the most adorable voice ever. Although she’s only eight years old, her voice is still incredible.
It only takes her a few seconds for her to turn her first judge!
It’s clear that Larissa is so confident and that she’s having so much fun performing.
The song only gets better and better as it goes on, and just a couple seconds later she’s turned all three of the judges! Though everyone knew that the person singing had to be young, every single one of them is surprised to see just how little Larissa really is.
Even though she has already turned everyone around, she keeps singing just as sweetly as before—and the whole thing is made all the more impressive by the fact that she’s singing a capella.
When it’s finally over, the whole crowd gives her a huge round of applause!
Although The Voice Kids has long been a showcase for all kinds of talented individuals, this one is definitely special.
Though it goes without saying, anybody who has a natural talent and passion for something can develop it into something great. Still, most people don’t get started as early as Larissa did!
Although there’s no telling what will happen in the future, if she sticks to her talents and hones her skills, we’re sure to see more great things from her in the future.
