What was your favorite Disney movie when you were growing up?
Although we all have our own choices, Disney has been making incredible musical movies for generations. In the ‘90s, there were a whole slew of incredible animated movies that reinvigorated the studio with great stories and even better songs.
Some familiar favorites include The Lion King, Aladdin and Mulan. Although we all have our own favorite, another of the most beloved movies of this period is The Little Mermaid, the love story about Ariel the mermaid who tries to find love on land.
At least, it was the favorite movie of the bride in this story.
If you spend much time on YouTube or the internet, you’ve likely seen some wedding surprise videos before.
Though it’s not uncommon to hire some videographers to film or document your wedding, plenty of wedding parties have discovered that they can kick their wedding videos up a notch by planning a special surprise.
Though the wedding was already going to have something of a Disney theme to it, this bride’s family decided to go above and beyond. Because they knew the bride, Kristen, loved The Little Mermaid, they decided to get Ariel’s original singer to come to the wedding and perform.
Sure enough, she had no idea what was happening when singer Jodi Benson walked out in front of her and the whole party!
As the officiant explains to the crowd, Benson is the original Ariel and she’s there to sing for the crowd.
After accepting the microphone, Benson says she’s happy to be there and that it’s her first performance at a wedding that isn’t for her own family. Next, Benson starts singing “Parts of Your World” from the movie.
Sure enough, Benson sounds exactly like Ariel from the movie—and Kristen is singing along with every single word! Although Benson’s voice is incredible, what makes the performance even better is just how excited the bride is.
Meanwhile, the party has the movie playing behind Benson to remind everyone where they are in the story.
Benson’s voice only gets more powerful and strong as the song goes along, up until the gentle and heartfelt ending.
When it’s all over, the crowd gives her a huge round of applause. Although there have been some awesome wedding surprises on the internet over the years, this is one of the most special ones we’ve ever seen.
To date, the video has earned nearly two million views on YouTube and has been shared all around the internet.
Even if The Little Mermaid isn’t your personal favorite movie, it’s hard not to appreciate the beauty of this performance.
Let’s face it: getting married is one of the biggest milestones in our lives when it comes to being or becoming an adult. What better way to celebrate the day, then, than by doing a tribute to our childhood?
After watching this video, it’s clear that Kristen was completely transported to a different time because of Benson’s performance—and it clearly meant a lot to her.
