If you’ve been following the news or listening to the radio much lately, you’re familiar with the name Lizzo.
For those who aren’t, Lizzo is a singer and songwriter who was born in Detroit, Michigan before moving to Houston, Texas to launch a music career.
She has released three studio albums, the third of which, Cuz I Love You, debuted sixth on the Billboard 200. In the past few years, she’s had smash hits from her songs “Tempo” and “Truth Hurts” and she shows no signs of stopping.
In fact, she recently performed another single for the first time on Ellen.
Anyone who watches Ellen knows that the talk show host is a big fan of dancing.
While all kinds of talk shows and variety shows try to bring on musical acts, Ellen’s musical performances tend to have more energy and more excitement than many of the others do.
As such, it was the perfect place for Lizzo to make her television performing debut with her hit single “Juice.” As the show begins, Ellen explains that Lizzo is an up-and-coming artist who has been acclaimed for her music by Rolling Stone.
In no time at all, the performance is underway.
As the first lyrics come in, the camera zooms in on Lizzo’s face backstage.
With the help of two other dancers, she acts out some of the initial lyrics as the performance starts to build in intensity.
Before long, she walks out onstage to huge cheers from the crowd. Although things start off well and everyone seems excited, she and her fellow dancers and back-up singers are only getting started.
A moment later, everyone goes off the stage and walks into the audience.
Though Lizzo was already dancing onstage, moving into the audience takes everything to a whole new level!
Before long, she and her dancers are walking through the aisles in the audience riling everybody up. As the song continues, everyone in the crowd is clapping and dancing along to the lyrics—and they all have huge smiles on their faces!
Before long, it’s time to go back onstage to finish up the performance, but there are still more surprises in store.
Back on the main stage, more dancers appear and everyone gets in a line for the big finale.
Although plenty of television music performances are a little lackluster, this is one of the most exciting that we’ve seen.
After all the dancing, Lizzo brings out a flute for a final touch. Without missing a beat, she plays an incredibly precise flute solo.
After that, the back wall of the stage opens and the dancers appear once again. When it’s finally all over, everyone onstage strikes a pose and Ellen comes out to join in.
Needless to say, everyone gets an enormous round of applause!
Although Lizzo is a relatively new artist, she’s definitely already making some big waves.
While it’s unusual to see such a lively music performance on television, it’s also unusual to have so much singing and dancing talent—all combined with the ability to play flute!
Above all, Lizzo’s performances seem to be about having fun and getting everyone excited. Needless to say, this show accomplished that.
