While most of us would rather stay at home and spend our Holidays with our family, the MacMaster-Leahy family would rather be on tour.

Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy, along with their four adorable kids, traveled to Kelowna, Canada, to share the true meaning of a Celtic Family Christmas.

Through a mix of music and dance, the MacMaster-Leahy family brought Cape Breton Christmas to everyone.

It was a family tour that aims to share rich traditions and culture.

“Christmas is where this whole concept started and we are excited to be travelling as a family,” said Donnell Leahy. “It’s a perfect time to travel across Canada and bring light and happiness to families and fans across the country.”

Who is Natalie MacMaster?

To all the fans of fiddle music, Natalie MacMaster is a name that needs no introduction.

The talented and hands-on mother-of-seven has a recording career of 32 years already.

MacMaster has an Order of Canada and an Order of Nova Scotia merit.

She has released 15 albums, all of which have had sales of over 200,000 copies. She has worked with famous artists such as Alison Krauss, Yo-Yo Ma, Jesse Cook, and even Bela Fleck.

Donnell Leahy had also made a name for himself long before he met MacMaster.

Donnell is actually the oldest brother of the famous family group named “Leahy.”

He had already received three JUNO Awards and he has already been recognized as one of the best Celtic fiddlers not just in Canada, but around the world.

When talent meets talent

The Canadian music world was both surprised and happy when the news broke that MacMaster and Leahy were in a relationship. Soon, both talented musicians got married and started a family.

“We married in 2002, and I would say it took at least five years before we did a show together,” MacMaster said to Northern Express. “We didn’t do much music together in our first 10 years of marriage. It’s more been the past five years that we’ve done more serious touring together.”

Soon, their small family became bigger.

That’s when it hit them, they wanted to share their talent and love for fiddling with their kids, and so they did.

MacMaster & Leahy legacy

Soon, the talented family started making seasonal tours with their kids.

Their fans were thrilled to see MacMaster and Leahy enjoying their passion for music. As a bonus, their kids are also exposed to the culture-rich music that their parents are known for.
