This one is Fantasy: Mariah Carey at Madison Square Garden, originally shown as a television special on November 29, 1995. She performed some of her most popular songs at the time, and the power ballad “Without You” surely holds a special place on that playlist. Paul McCartney once described the track as “the killer song of all time.”

Mariah did her cover of the song based on Harry Nilsson’s 1971 version, but the song was originally recorded by British rock group Badfinger in 1970.

Carey’s version went on to become a huge international hit, and is still very popular on talent shows.

We all know that Carey is a magnificent signer, but the way she delivers the song is almost unbelievable.

We hardly grasped the fact that it wasn’t pre-recorded, as Mariah is simply phenomenal at hitting those high notes on the spot and making it look so effortless. With her elegant outfit, dim lights and so much confidence on stage, she has the audience excitedly screaming every time she frees the full potential of her powerful voice. It’s very clear why she’s regarded as one of the best artists in history. The level of vocal splendor in her prime is majestic.
