There are more than a hundred different types of dancing. Most people have heard of jazz, ballet, salsa, ballroom, and tap dancing, but most have never heard of clogging.

Clogging is, “a dance that is done in time with the music -to the downbeat usually with the heel keeping rhythm.”

The first cloggers were from the Appalachian Mountains during the mid-1700s when European immigrants all started to intermingle. Soon after, the combination of folk dancing across their cultures culminated into clogging!

The clog dancing that Madison and Morgan perform has grown since then. Clog dancing of today has been influenced by,

“the Cherokee Indians, to African Blacks and Russian Gypsies, clogging has enveloped many different traditions to become truly a “melting pot” of step dances … New influences are creeping into the dance because of popular culture. Tap dancing, Canadian Step Dancing, Irish Hard Shoe and even street dancing and hip-hop influences are being seen to bear on the style of steps and dances performed by cloggers today.”

Like any cultural dance, it has changed over time. Even now, as it grows more popular, modern influences have started to impact clogging in a really cool way! It was originally a mixture of dances and it only makes sense for it to continue that tradtion.

Madison and Morgan have been clog dancing since they were five-years-old. They usually perform together and with the four-time national champion team “Tap This”.

Madison and Morgan have won their own awards as a duo, regional and national awards.

One incredible video of Madison and Morgan’s performance was recorded at the Showdown of Champions in Knoxville, Tennessee. The two sisters are wearing matching plaid and give a performance that is downright fun to watch.

The girls have been dancing together since they were little, and it shows! They are in perfect sync with each other. Their dance is energetic from the very beginning and these girls are moving with the beat quickly!

The routine is quite detailed and impressive. It includes quick footwork and fast timings. They interlink arms and never miss a beat (or each other’s outstretched hands)!

The time spent together as sisters has forced them to trust and stay on beat together. That, and a ton of practice!

You don’t have to wonder if the crowd is loving it – they tell you! With each trick and move the audience roared with applause. Even though the two sisters are concentrating, they can’t help but smile the whole way through – they are doing what they love AND winning!
