Brother and sister perform beautiful duet in kitchen, get 20 million views on YouTube
The beginning is great, but they just keep adding in more instruments and layers!

Though there’s plenty of content out there on YouTube, one of the best things about it is that anyone can upload.

When it started off, YouTube was a place where people could upload their own home videos to share with the rest of the world. While it’s still that same place, bigger companies have gotten in on it now as well.

In other words, major movie and television studios load their own content up there as well—that’s why we can rent movies there and watch clips from our favorite shows there as well. Obviously, the same can also be said about professional musicians.

Still, there’s a real charm in discovering amateur or less-known artists who are making a name for themselves online.

The performers in today’s video are just one great example of that.

The channel is called Nathan & Eva, and it consists of Nathan and Eva Leach. They are a brother and sister duo out of Charleston, South Carolina.

While the duo posts all kinds of performance videos on YouTube, they also list their various social media handles there as well in the hopes of their videos getting spread far and wide. While they only have about 87,000 followers on their channel, they’ve been growing steadily and have essentially grown up on the platform.

But some of their videos have had breakout success.

Perhaps the best example of this is a performance they uploaded in March 2013.

The two siblings sit in their kitchen and say they’re going to perform “Hero,” a folk song by Family of the Year that was massively popular on the radio for a while.

After a quick count-in, Nathan starts strumming his guitar and singing the opening lyrics. Although the two are definitely young, it’s clear that they’re talented and that they share some chemistry in their performances.

Before long, he finishes the first verse and passes the song over to his sister Eva.

Like her brother, Eva’s voice is beautiful and gentle as well!

Although they’re very young, both of them are definitely passionate about music and they do a good job performing the famous song while still adding their own flavor to it.

Still, the best part of the performance happens when they get to the big chorus again and start harmonizing. While the original doesn’t have much harmony in it, these two siblings have totally rearranged it so there are complex melodies added in that are all their own!

Towards the end, they speed the song up a little and add in some instrumentation.

Nathan strums faster and his sister starts using a shaker as well.

Towards the end, they drop the guitar out and harmonize once again. After that, Eva even pulls out a harmonica and starts playing that as well!

Although the beginning was great, the way it builds is amazing. When it’s finally over, they both turn towards the camera and flash a big smile.

Since the clip was posted, it has been viewed nearly 20 million times!

Above all, the warmth and sincerity behind this performance is contagious.

Although this clip is great in itself, Nathan and Eva have kept performing and are now much older and even more confident in their performances!
