We’re no strangers to incredible live dance duos. From live performers across the world, there are incredible dance routines popping up all across the Internet every day. But until this video from the FCI Dog Dance World Championship 2016, we never knew that dogs could join the fun in such a creative way. You have to see to believe the coordination and talent of this pup and their human.

And coming in from Finland is…

The video opens with an announcer introducing our performers. The warm welcome is met with a round of applause from an expectant crowd as our performers take the stage. A handsome dog and their handler, dressed up in a painter’s pair of overalls and a newsboy cap.

The handler guides the dog to a small on stage crate and leads it inside. Once the dog is safely and neatly tucked inside, they add another layer to the box so that the dog is completely out of view. Then the performance begins.

It’s another day in a painter’s neighborhood when…

The best interpretative dances tell a story and this one couldn’t be clearer. The handler is a painter in the middle of a job. After applying a paint roller to the crate, they put up a “no dogs allowed” sign, then stand up to take a small break.

But our protagonist, the dog, peeks up over the side of the crate. They take a moment to look out at the crowd before hopping out to hide behind and around the handler.

Step by step, inch by inch

In a classic comedy bit, the dog mirrors the handler’s bouncy and bubbly movements. Always remaining within step with their handler. Even when the handler takes a moment to snap their overall suspenders, the dog never gets out of step, stealing the show even as they hide in the painter’s shadow.

The absolute coordination on display is incredible and shows off the handwork this all-star dog is capable of. You can just imagine how glued to their seats the crowd had to be, wondering what will happen next.

Peek a boo, he sees you

Well eventually the dog peeks their head between the handler’s legs exposing itself to the handler. The handler looks down and has a delightfully animated “shocked” expression on their face. As the performer takes dainty steps back to escape the dog, the dog keeps in pace all the way.

This leads to a chase scene as the dog and handler race around the stage, never more than a step away from one another. The handler never breaks character and the dog never misses a beat or loses their stride.

The painter finally escapes when…

Desperate to get away, the painter climbs into the no dogs allowed box from before. They bury their face in their arms doing everything they can to stay out of sight. But the dog isn’t done with them yet.

The dog plucks a doggy sized tool box from behind the crate and holds it up. They then wait patiently for the painter to notice. When they do, the painter is so very charmed by the dog’s antics that they crawl out of the box and retrieve their own bright pink tool box.

Together at last

As the new dog and painter duo dance, the scene takes on a more lively and fun air. They own the stage as they hop, prance, and tip-tap from one end of the stage to the other. It’s incredible watching the dog remain in step all the way. Even when the man theatrically stumbles into the prop-box on stage, the dog is never far behind.

The show ends as the dog sits up and plucks the newsboy cap off the painter’s head and poses to a happy and excited performer. This leads to a rousing ovation from the crowd.
