Kids In Recital Crack Audience Up When They Start To "Shake"

December 20th, 2018

With Christmas fast approaching, many families have been attending school Christmas recitals.

For some parents, it can seem like a drag. Sure, the kids aren’t very coordinated yet, and they might not remember all the words to the song, it’s still an important event in the school year —a tradition if you will.

A few years ago, the St. Elizabeth Child Care Center, in Jersey City, New Jersey, decided to host their very own Christmas recital.

As mentioned, some of the parents weren’t too keen on the event— but after seeing this hilariously adorable performance, everyone in the audience was extremely happy they came.

The children had been practicing their routine for ages; they wanted to get every movement right.

For the most part, it would be a dance piece, and their teacher hoped the choreography wasn’t too complex. As the recital approached, the kids grew more anxious to show off their newfound moves. They couldn’t wait for their parents to see them and appreciate their hard work.

On the night of the big event, the gym had been decorated for the occasion.

A stage with festive curtains stood at the forefront of the auditorium. It featured a black background hosting homemade, gold-colored stars. Across the center in big white letters read the words: “A CHILD IS BORN”.

For the performance, the children and teacher had decided to wear matching green, Christmas outfits, reminiscent of little Christmas elves. The kids waited patiently while the other classrooms performed their dances and songs. Then finally, when it was their turn, they were guided to their places by the teachers and nuns.

When the kids take the stage, some appear to be nervous.

Even though they had practiced for ages, it would be different in front of a big crowd. They hoped they’d be able to remember their moves; their ultimate goal was to impress. Before the song began, the children looked around the room, trying to spot their parents. Their necks craned in every direction with successful kids letting out tiny waves.

They would be dancing to “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee.

Considering their ages, the song choice is apt. Despite her mature voice, musical prodigy Brenda Lee was only 13 years old when the song was recorded. It was written by Johnny Marks and featured the country sound she would later embrace in her musical career.

When the song starts playing, it’s time for the kids to strut their stuff.

Planting their hands on their hips while wearing big smiles, they suddenly begin to sway and shake.

It’s kind of hard to explain the effect unless you’ve seen it for yourself. Their little bodies pump asynchronously, some showing more passion for the performance than others. As one comment noted, they look like little robots.

With their exaggerated movements and innocent voices, the crowd can’t help but cheer for their enthusiasm. Upon hearing the audience’s support, the kids seem to grow increasingly emboldened and confident. By the end of the routine, nobody in the room can hold back their smiles.

Since being uploaded, the kids’ routine has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times.

“I like the middle girl in the front. It’s so cute, and she knows how to do it, and she’s singing too.”

“Wow! Well done, little guys!”

“This was fabulous!”
