The rise of streaming services has meant that all different kinds of music are accessible at our fingertips.

In the past, people would have to collect and curate their music collections. In the old days, there were vinyl records to collect. After that, people moved on to CDs.

In either case, your collection of music was something that you owned, something that you had to hold onto physically. And it was also something that you had to put a lot of thought into. When you can just discover things, music takes on a new meaning.

Still, it also means that younger generations are more easily able to listen to older music.

When you combine that phenomenon with YouTube, you end up with something very special.

That’s the case with the video in this story. The clip was uploaded to YouTube by Reina del Cid, a singer-songwriter and lead musician in a rock group from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Though they perform live shows and music as well, the group started getting popular by uploading live performances, covers and original songs to YouTube.

Although many of them are great, one that was particularly possible covered a classic Neil Young song.

As the video begins, the group is gathered in front of a stream in Rogue Valley, Oregon.

The clip starts with the four musicians tuning up their instruments and getting in position to play. After a little bit of joking around, they reveal that they’ll be playing “Harvest Moon” by Neil Young.

When they’re relaxed, the bassist does a count-in and they all start playing the song beautifully! Although the song was originally recorded and released in 1992, the group brings it to life through their own playing and energy.

As the song continues, the group keeps sounding better and better.

Still, this isn’t the only song of its kind that the group has reinterpreted as a cover.

One of the group’s most popular videos was actually of a Hank Williams song called Jambalaya. As that performance begins, two of the musicians sit on some railroad tracks and set up a microphone between the two of them.

Using two guitars, the two sings and players do a beautiful job of recreating Williams’ signature country sound! Still, they take their own liberties with it and turn it into something quaint and beautiful.

While the video was uploaded in 2016, it has since gotten nearly five million views on YouTube!

Though they’re not quite a household name yet, Reina del Cid shows that they’re a great folk-rock group with a taste for the classics!

While the songs on the radio have moved in a hyper-polished direction, music like theirs is refreshing and relaxing. Just because music can be corrected and pitch-shifted to sound perfect, it doesn’t mean that it has to.
