Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, along with other producers, produced a comedy-drama film in 1997 called Soul Food.

In the movie, Babyface Edmonds formed a fictional group called Milestone that consisted of him and two of his brothers, Kevon Edmonds and Melvin Edmonds, who were R&B singers in a group called After 7.

K-Ci and Jojo Hailey are known as members of the R&B quartet Jodeci and the dynamic duo K-Ci & Jojo.

In an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1997, Oprah introduced the group Milestone on television and afterward asked the man behind the group about it.

After Kenny Edmonds introduced his brothers including K-Ci and Jojo Hailey who was part of their group, Oprah then proceeded to let the quintet take the stage to show both the present and television audience their performance of their number one single.

You can hear the soul in their voices as they mouth the words of the song!

Kevon followed shortly to the spotlight and sang with an angelic voice that almost no one would expect from him.

As Kevon vocalized the last few notes that led to the chorus, the rest of the quintet joined in for a beautiful five-way harmony that just blew Oprah away.

The rest of the quintet group awed their audience as they performed individual parts.

Melvin Edmonds took his turn on the microphone and sang his verse in his clean, powerful timbre.

K-Ci Hailey did not let himself fall behind as he made his entrance with overflowing passion and raspy vocals. As K-Ci continued to improvise, Milestone went back in front for another chorus.

Afterward, JoJo and Kevon teamed-up for a two-way showdown of vocals as they run through the song’s bridge.

After the explosive two-man performance, the rest of the singers joined them for the finale.

The clip was old but their performance was timeless.

Milestone’s performance could be best described as “old, but gold.”

Each of the singers has shown their distinguishing singing styles but when blended, the different qualities made up for a perfectly satisfying sound. Moreover, the stage production was not that great in 1997 compared to what it is today.
