Mat and Savanna Shaw are a father and daughter duo who’ve become viral singing sensations over the last month. They’ve won the internet’s heart with their uplifting music videos, which couldn’t come at a better time than now with everything going on in the world. In fact, each one has been created while staying safely at home.
A new video was uploaded to the pair’s social media accounts a few days into April, in celebration of “National Find A Rainbow Day.” This time though, it’s a solo performance from 15-year-old Savanna.
One of Savanna’s favorite songs is an unforgettable classic that many of us grew up listening to, “Over the Rainbow.”
The Utah teen is once again bringing brightness to people’s days with her rendition of the Wizard of Oz tune. While you’ve likely heard this song numerous times over the years – Savanna’s version might just leave you in chills.
It’s typical for teenagers to spend a lot of time on social media. However, Savanna only started recently so she could communicate with her choir buddies. She asked her dad if they could record a version of “The Prayer” together so she could post it.
Savanna and Mat’s breathtaking father and daughter duet of “The Prayer” quickly went viral, and in one month, it’s been watched more than 4.1 million times on YouTube.
They’ve also covered inspiring songs like “A Million Dreams,” “True Colors,” and “A Whole New World.” Although the Shaw’s channel is new with less than 10 videos – they’ve already racked up over 177K subscribers.
National Find A Rainbow Day falls on April 3rd of each year according to the National Day Calendar website.
In honor of the special day, Savanna thought it was the perfect opportunity to sing “Over the Rainbow” and continue to spread hope.
On social media she shared:
“It’s National Find A Rainbow Day! 🌈I wanted to take advantage of this opportunity to share with you a classic and all-time favorite song of mine, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” … “Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue…” This song is about hope, and encourages us that one day we will be able to move past hard times. Keep the faith, my friends! Smile today!”
With the voice of an angel, Savanna sings “Over the Rainbow” while being accompanied by a piano. It’s a rendition that’s simply beautiful.
Judy Garland’s 1939 version is surely the first to come to mind when thinking of the song, as it was created for her Dorothy character. Music artists like Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, Josh Groban, and Ariana Grande also covered “Over the Rainbow” (to name just a few). It’s a song that touches a lot of people’s hearts, and now Savanna’s video is too.
