Most of us are used to seeing guitar buskers.
We’ve probably even heard buskers playing harmonica, but the sax is usually not their instrument of choice. We’re not used to seeing someone perform sax in public, let alone hearing two saxophone players in a battle.
That’s about to change—because we’ve found an amazingly entertaining video of two saxophone players competing against each other on a subway.
It’s unbelievably amusing and awakens up that lit spark of competitive spirit we all have inside.
One of the two is Sapphire Adizes, and he’s already built a name for himself.
The music industry is full of incredibly talented people who are trying to make it in the business but haven’t yet been discovered or signed.
They usually perform at local bars or in the street, but the skills they possess are often extremely impressive. The video was filmed on a subway. Someone was playing saxophone, but the coincidence was that he wasn’t the only one with the sax on the subway that night.
The other man who carried the same instrument was Adizes, a saxophonist, producer and singer-songwriter.
His focus is on creating symphonic, electronic tracks rich with experimental textures and powerful sax and piano performances. The man wrote his first sonata at five years old and composed his first sonata when he was 17. Just a year later, Adizes performed with his Jazz Quartet at the Lincoln Center Atrium. Needless to say, performing a little piece for the audience on a subway was no big deal for him.
The video is rather short, and as you press play, the camera is focused on a guy who is about to take something out of his case.
You can hear a saxophone player in the background, and moments later, another saxophone comes out of the case we’ve just seen. Adizes takes it out and starts to put it together.
As soon as he has it built, he starts playing it and the subway roars.
The two players are about to enter a sax battle together where they will entertain everyone, share a trick or two and end up with a friendly shake. That’s the power of music—it unites and connects people.
As fantastic as this video is, it doesn’t even come close to portray all the great things Adizes has already achieved.
He works in the genre called “present music.” That’s the term he uses to describe the dynamic production he’s creating, which is somewhere between institutionalized and non-institutionalized. The talented young sax player also founded The Avocado Orchard, a recording studio in California which is dedicated to exploring the margins of pop and classical music. Let’s face it—we are listening to a very productive, ambitious young man in this video.
Sapphire already has 925 YouTube subscribers, and this video alone accumulated 15 million views.
The score is not bad at all for a man who’s recently entered the scene and is paving his path to success!
With over five thousand Instagram followers, Adizes’ fanbase is growing slowly, and we can only hope that a lot more people will have the opportunity to hear his music. This man should perform live, and he should do it a lot more often. Both of them should!
