One of the thrilling things about living in a big city is that you’re never sure what you might see on any given day.
On the negative side, you may be exposed to more crime or more dangerous situations in general if you decide to live in an urban metropolis.
On the other hand, though, you might walk out into the street and find a pop-up restaurant or a surprise concert going on. You may go down into the subway and see a spontaneous street performance that turns your whole day around.
The latter is definitely the case in the video we have for you today.
Though it goes without saying, making a living as a street performer is no easy task.
You have to be extremely passionate about your craft as well as extremely talented. Beyond that, you have to be supremely self-confident, willing to keep putting yourself out there and resistant to criticism or self-consciousness.
Still, if you happen to have all of these traits, sometimes incredible things can happen when you perform.
Recently, those kinds of things have been happening for Damiyr Shuford.
Shuford is a New York City-based singer-songwriter who has been doing street performances for a long time.
Although he’s also had videos of his performances that went viral, Shuford was recently written up by some other media outlets and had a full-length album released on all the major streaming services. Still, one of his earlier performances in the New York City subways show just how talented he’s been for a long time.
Like his other videos, this one starts off simply with Shuford playing guitar.
The song he’s singing is by Asaf Avidan, an Israeli singer-songwriter.
At first, it looks like this will be similar to any other street performance. Shuford’s voice is beautiful and his guitar playing underscores his voice so well.
A moment later, though, another man in a white shirt walks by him and pauses, turning around to face Shuford. After that, the man hands his backpack to a friend of his and approaches Shuford even more closely.
After that, he starts doing a freestyle interpretative dance to Shuford’s music!
As the performance continues, Shuford’s performance is only elevated by this stranger’s dancing!
Working together, the two street performers create a captivating show for all the passengers on the train platform! After hitting a few impressive moves, the song slows down a bit.
The crowd that has gathered now is huge and it’s time for a big finale. At the very end, Shuford plays a few slow notes and the dancer takes a bow.
When it’s all over, the crowd that has gathered gives them a big round of applause!
Though living in the big city comes with plenty of hassles, this video encapsulates everything good about it.
Aside from the joy that the spectators must’ve had watching this, it must’ve also been a joy for Shuford to see someone so moved by his music—moved enough to join in and make it even better! Needless to say, videos like this one are a reminder to always keep your eyes open when you’re walking around in the world. If you’re careful, you just might experience something incredible.
