Though there are plenty of reality shows on television, one of the most consistently interesting has to be The Voice.

For anyone who doesn’t know, the show began in Holland as The Voice of Holland, though it has since gone on to become one of the most-watched shows in the world.

Aside from its American version, the show is an international franchise with many different specialties and offshoots.

Still, what’s made the show so appealing over the years is its unique format.

Rather than having the judges and the contestants know who one another is, the show adds in a few twists.

As the contestants come out, each one does a “blind audition” where the judges can’t see them. Once they start singing, the judges can hit their buzzers to turn around and see who’s performing (if they like what they hear).

After that, the judges compete to get each of the people to join their team. That’s because at the end of every season, there’s both a winning contestant and a winning judge or vocal coach.

The performance we’re talking about today comes from The Voice of Holland back in 2011.

Like any other audition, it begins with a man walking out on stage before a panel of judges who have their backs turned.

A moment later, some backing music starts playing as everyone waits for the first notes to ring out. The man is Charly Luske, and the song he chooses to sing is “It’s a Man’s World” originally by James Brown.

Brown has an iconic voice and was one of the world’s most beloved performers, so it’s not exactly a safe choice and the stakes are high. Regardless, Lusky sings the opening lick so beautifully and soulfully. It’s clear his voice has so much power!

After just the first couple notes, all four of the judges hit their buzzers for a four-chair turn!

Though these kinds of full turns can happen on the show, it’s rare that they happen immediately before the song even begins!

While it’s easy to try to do an impression of James Brown or to struggle through his songs, few people have ever dominated one of Brown’s songs quite like Luske does here.

There’s not a single note he sings that’s out of place and his version of it is good enough to even rival the original version! He sails through the verses with a rock-style voice all the way until the very end.

When it’s over, the audience gives him an enormous round of applause.

Since the video was posted online, it has been viewed more than 54 million times!

Though there have been plenty of incredible performances on The Voice over the years, this throwback from the place where it all started is still one of the best we’ve ever seen!

While some people just have a natural knack for singing, the fact that Luske picked the perfect song and knocked it out of the park adds to how powerful it is. Needless to say, nobody in the audience is going to forget what they saw in the studio that day!

Congratulations to Charly Luske on one of the all-time great performances on this show! Be sure to watch the entire thing in the link below:
