Although we’ve all heard great singers in our lifetime, sometimes performers have a certain special something you can’t put your finger on.
In some cases, it’s the ability to hit particularly high notes or a certain vocal quality. In others, it’s just the raw power of their voice that makes them especially remarkable.
Still, sometimes it’s hard to know exactly what it is about someone’s voice that makes it so special—all we know is that it makes us feel things, tremendously.
That was definitely the case for one singer on The Voice of Spain.
For those who don’t know, The Voice is an international franchise with all kinds of different versions of itself around the world.
In all the different shows, the format is basically the same. A contestant comes onstage to sing and the judges listen with their backs turned.
If they like what they hear, they can hit their buzzers to turn around—and at that point, they compete with one another to recruit the most talented people to their respective teams. At the end of the show, one contestant and one judge win everything.
The audition we’re talking about today took place on The Voice of Spain’s 2019 season.
Like any other contestant, a woman named Auba Estela Murillo walks out on stage while the judges’ backs are turned.
After that, she starts singing “Aunque tú no lo sepas,” a song by Clara Lago. From the very first notes, the woman’s voice is so sweet and delicate that one of the judges hides his head in his hands.
Everyone is on the edge of their seats and nobody can believe what they’re hearing. Right away, tears well in the judges’ eyes—and in the audience’s as well! Estela Murillo’s performance only gets better and better as it goes on.
Before long, her soulful singing has all the judges nearly beside themselves.
When it’s all over, she thanks the crowd and gets a standing ovation!
After that, the host gets up to give Estela Murillo a hug—and one of the judges gets up for a hug as well. Even though the singing is over, the judges are still crying and pulling themselves together.
As the judges explain, sometimes a performance is special because it’s technically excellent in some way. Still, other performances work well because they pull directly on the heartstrings.
Though it goes without saying, Estela Murillo’s performance was an example of the latter.
While The Voice of Spain isn’t watched very much on a global scale, the performance still has more than five million views on YouTube.
Although Estela Murillo is clearly a talented singer, there’s also more to take away from her performance. If we’ve learned anything, it’s that sometimes the best achievements and performances don’t have to be totally perfect.
Sometimes allowing some vulnerability and shakiness into something actually makes it stronger. After all, nobody is perfect and we all just want to connect with other people. Without a doubt, Estela Murillo’s performance did that better than anybody else could’ve!
