America’s Got Talent judges Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell were visibly moved when Avery Dixon told them about his life struggles.

21-year-old Dixon experienced trouble in school mainly because of his appearance and unique way of speaking.

All consequences of him being born premature.

As Avery himself said,

“At the time I picked up the saxophone, I was getting having trouble in elementary school. My voice sounded a little different and I looked a little bit different too. My elementary school nickname was Hammerhead because I had these knots on my head because I’m premature.”

“I was born at one pound and eight ounces. And my vocal cords don’t close all the way so, it made my voice sound really airy. Students were so negative about my voice — one called me frog and she’d get the class in on the joke. They were relentless. I was in such a dark place,” he told the judges.

His goal?

“I’d want to give my mom and brother a space where we can actually live as loud as you want to be because I can’t exactly practice where I live now. Somebody had called the cops on me before I flew out. I was trying to practice. They called the cops, the cops came banging on the door, they were like, ‘You need to be quiet,'” he explained.

“My goal with the music, with this, is to be able to do the thing I love, and if I can do that, I will have found my purpose for being on AGT.”

Dixon considered ending his own life because of all the pain he went through.

Thank the high heavens he found the saxophone.

This young man is the embodiment of rhythm and blues!

As soon as Avery starts to play the sax, a stunned silence comes over the judges and the audience, a slow melodious piece filling the stage before the band picks up the beat and Dixon begins strutting with his sax.

Dixon is so good, so good, that Vergara, Klum, and Mandel stood up along with the crowd, clapping and dancing along to the jazz tune that’s taken over the entire show.

And Mandel standing up to dance is a huge deal says Heidi since Howie never dances.

Avery got him up and moving!

Simon had this to say,

“Every time I hear a story about a kid having trouble at school, it breaks my heart. It breaks it even more now because I have a son myself, and I could not think of anything worse. Any one of those idiots who caused trouble, I hope is watching this audition,. All of us were willing you to be good. I didn’t know you would be great!”

As Simon gave his “Yes”, host Terry Crews stepped out with a microphone saying there was no need to vote, and that Avery had him as his big brother if ever there were any more bullies.

The emotional host wants Dixon to succeed.

Terry goes on and hits the golden buzzer, showering Avery in gold!
