Construction workers use many different types of tools.
You know, the usual stuff: wrenches, hammers or drills. They can also operate machines like bulldozers and cranes. And when they’re not busy building our environment and its infrastructure, some of them are excellent at playing the piano. Yes, that’s right.
This is like Bob the Builder—but the musical edition!
The video begins with a public piano at a train station…which is hard to resist it if you love to play.
It’s funny the kinds of hobbies that people engage in during their spare time—why wouldn’t a lawyer be a good dancer, for example?
Why shouldn’t a builder play the piano? Sure enough, this video shows it all—he sits at piano in full construction attire, with a hard hat, yellow vest and everything. That’s when the show starts.
Before you know it, the man plays an amazing melody.
It’s all just an improvisation, and it’s impressive. The whole scenario makes you think of all the people who are in the wrong profession!
It’s not uncommon that people find themselves in a position of not being completely satisfied with their jobs.
A lot of us have our hearts set somewhere else, not where we have to be from 9 to 5. Our real talents often only emerge during our free time.
What is the solution then?
Of course, the ideal situation of everyone in the world loving their jobs is impossible. The next-most ideal option would be to learn to balance the things you do because your job requires them and the things you do for fun. The serenity often lies where the right balance is.
Ultimately, this video is a little bit misleading—we’re sorry to burst the bubble, but the builder is a professional pianist in disguise.
We have to admit that the whole thing seemed a little bit suspicious.
There are, of course, people who can juggle different talents simultaneously and be good at them. It’s just not that common. What we see here is the performance of an experienced piano player, Brendan Kavanagh. He goes by the name Dr. K on YouTube and is followed by 1.2 million people. For anyone who doesn’t know, Dr. K’s channel is full of similar performances—he likes to call them Boogie Woogie concerts.
Brendan has already posed as a delivery man, an old man and a policeman.
He’s been busking on the streets of London and he also posts video tutorials on his channel.
You can even find videos he posted to keep his audience entertained during quarantine on his YouTube channel.
In 2007, Dr. K founded Dr. K Media Limited, and changed his focus to online teaching, selling, promoting and performing piano music.
Aside from being talented, Mr. Kavanagh is also well educated.
Dr. K graduated from Middlesex University with a first-class single honors BA in English.
Brendan then obtained his MA in Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama at University College Dublin. On top of it all, he even has a Ph.D. from University College Cork. Builder or not, the man is very humble, and that’s what we loved the most.
After finishing the performance, Brendan was awarded with a huge round of applause—but he simply stood up, took his newspapers and disappeared in the crowd.
It’s been two years since the video was uploaded, and 12 million people have already seen it. Even so, it’s worth another watch!
