Man Performs Drum Solo Using Only His Voice
How so many different sounds can come out of one person boggles my mind. The second half after the applause is even more astounding.

There is talent everywhere even when you can’t see it. We have countless artists, singers, and musicians all over the planet who have honed and perfected their craft much to the delight of their fans. But to appreciate talent that’s a little… unorthodox, shall we say, takes an open mind and accepting fan base.

Singers have amazing vocal control. Guitarists boast of awesome finger work. Same goes for pianists, drummers, and percussionists. But what about beatboxers?

Meet Adam Rupp.

Adam is the “vocal percussionist” for Home Free. They are an all vocal country band. He’s technically not a drummer but his role is pretty much the same. He uses his voice to provide the beat. It may be hard to believe but it’s true.

They were in their teens when they formed back in 2000. Nothing much came out of it as members changed and life got in the way. But a chance meeting turned their fortunes around and in 2013, won NBC’s The Sing-Off. Home Free began to grow.

People don’t always believe what they hear.

Especially with these guys and Adam’s crazy beats. So they give the stage to Adam. This one is for all the skeptics and critics. All the guy needs is his stool and a microphone. Maybe he should have a glass of water nearby…

Listen to that hi-hat! Adam gives the crowd a little teaser as he warms up with a few quick strokes. He increases the tempo to the crowd’s approval. They want some more. Give them more, Adam!

There’s the bass drum.

You can’t see it, but it’s definitely there. And when Adam launches into a snappy, catchy beat, it’s hard to believe how others say it’s not real. It’s that dude with the awesome beatboxing skills!

No skeptics in the comments,

“Ladies and gentlemen, the man who swallowed a drumset. ;)”

We would have to agree. Cymbals and tom-toms have now been unleashed.

Adam stops drumming but it’s not over.

He stands with a microphone in hand to an already cheering audience. How about a little remix from a live turntable? Yeah Adam can do that too. He smiles as he does so before launching again into a funky, hip-hop beat. What a voice he’s got!

He throws in a few electronic sound effects for good measure.

It sort of sounds like a 90s meets early millennium mix of club music. Adam tries to get the crowd in to it but it’s not like they can produce the same sounds as he does. Still, awesome effort!

The club party remix gets more intense with Adam just showing off his stunning beatbox skills. This is vocal percussion at its finest. He actually started when he was in the fifth grade. Though no one knew what it was back then.

It was in college that he focused on his talent.

Adam admits it took him a really long time to even be considered “good”, but he persisted. He is living proof of what constant dedication and practice does. He says he now mostly experiments and adapts. Judging by his solo act and how the crowd reacted, it looks like all those years of hard work have paid off.
