Ed Sheeran is one of the most accomplished singers in this generation.
Even so, he’s not like other artists who instantly got famous the moment they were born. Sheeran has his own story and not all people know about it.
How did his career start?
Ed Sheeran was born in a family that had an interest in the field of art.
His father John Sheeran was a curator at Cartwright Hall while his mother, Imogen Sheeran, worked as an art consultant and a jewelry designer. Ed Sheeran also had a brother named Matthew who works as a composer. The singer-songwriter showed interest in music at such a young age, and during his teenage days, he started doing small gigs on the streets of London.
Damien Rice was a big part of Ed Sheeran’s success.
When the young Ed Sheeran met the 90’s Irish singer-songwriter backstage, Damien Rice advised him to write his music—and he did just that the next day. He has plenty of creativity and flair that makes his songs unique. As he slowly introduced his songs to London’s streets, people began to see him as a talent that they have never seen before.

Ed Sheeran was slowly gaining internet reputation after he began recording music in 2004.
The course to his success continued to rise when he played from small gigs to bigger crowds on the stage along with various singer-songwriters he met on the way. In June 2010, he was featured on an episode of Station Session, where he played his songs in front of the interested passersby at St. Pancras International.
There was a documentary episode filmed about it, but the clip we’re talking about is a five-minute excerpt from a video loaded to YouTube.
Ed told Station Session about how different the crowd in St. Pancras Station was than the crowds he typically played to in his impromptu gigs.
He was proficient in playing as a one-man band on stage with his acoustic guitar and a bunch of loop pedals. He uses the pedals for looping instrumentals, secondary vocals and even for beatboxing.
In the five-minute episode, Ed Sheeran was shown singing a cover of the American folk song “(I Am A Poor) Wayfaring Stranger,” “Let It Out” from his 2011 EP Loose Change, and “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You.” The number of people waiting for their trains watching Sheeran perform these songs was huge!
In the last part, Ed Sheeran asked the people to form into a circle where he would stand in the middle as he sings one last song, a cover of Nizlopi’s “All My Life (Evian).”
The crowd gladly followed and it became a classic, chill atmosphere with Ed Sheeran’s pure music in the middle.
Needless to say, now he’s a huge name in the music industry.
The people in that station may have been the first ones to be surprised to see how Ed Sheeran skyrocketed with his music.
He currently has four studio albums, but each of them was a huge success. We have yet to hear more of Ed Sheeran after his groundbreaking success with his recent album Divide and the No.6 Collaborations project. Even so, we’re holding out for more!
