Families have all sorts of different ways of showing their love for one another. Some do it through sweet gestures and words of affirmation, and some do it through sharing senses of humor and laughing nonstop. No matter how you show your affection, a wedding is a great opportunity to fine-tune the specifics of what makes your bonds with many people so special. For one mother and son duo, the son’s wedding was a perfect time to exemplify what bonds these two, and they got some pretty great results.

Much like how it’s tradition for the father of the bride to share a dance with his daughter at the wedding reception, mothers of the groom have taken to having a dance with their son.

This dance typically follows the one shared by father and daughter, so there may be a lot of anticipation and hype to live up to. Fortunately, this mom and her son are talented and practiced enough to shatter everyone’s expectations.

The dance starts with the mother sitting in a chair, while her son stands.

As the music starts and the chatter dies down, everyone is focused on what this pair will do. The son then extends his hand to his mother and she stands up. They start swaying to the music, a song called “All to You” by DJ Keo. It’s a ballad about motherly love and how grateful the singer is for his mother. It’s very sweet.

But then the energy shifts as another song starts playing.

To everyone’s surprise, mother and son start doing the twist. A change of music, to the song “Twist and Shout” prompts this, and the wedding guests start to cheer as they realize that this will not be a typical mother-son dance.

The song changes again.

By now it’s clear that the mother and the groom decided to heavily incorporate their shared sense of humor into this dance. What follows is a medley of songs, some traditional, some more modern rap songs. With each song change, the two dancers change their movements to match the beat and genre.

The dancing changes from the Twist to the Milly Rock, to Crank Dat.

The wedding guests are delighted by the whole thing.

It’s safe to assume that no one expected to see this. Although the audience was quiet at first, because they were expecting to see the sweet and slow dance that normally accompanies this tradition, that all changes pretty quickly.

Every time the song changes and a new dance is introduced, people start clapping and cheering. It’s impressive to see mother and son keep up with each other, and it’s such a fun update to bring to a wedding.

People from all over are loving this beautiful dance.

After a medley of fun contemporary moves, the dance ends with mother and son embracing as the music changes back to something slower and you can hear the words “I owe it all to you.” Knowing that mother and son choreographed this whole performance and learned these steps together shows how strong their bond is. Sharing humor and dance with someone is a bond that you carry with you everywhere you go.
