Every year in September, the district of Sant Andreu in Barcelona celebrates what they call the Jazzing Festival.

The Sant Andreu Jazz Band, a youth band formed in Barcelona, first organized the celebration. Countless jazz prodigies and bands would gather in Barcelona to share their craft. Joan Chamorro was the bandleader of the Sant Andreu Jazz band, and her reason for organizing the festival was to bring jazz to the streets. She wanted to show that jazz music is something that everyone can enjoy.

These musicians decided to put on a show on one Saturday afternoon.

In September 2019, the sixth annual Jazzing festival was held right outside Bar Colombia, a vintage yet charming café in the Sant Andreu town center.

Joan Chamorro and the members of SAJB—namely Joan Marti, Alba Armengou, Elia Bastida, Alba Esteban and Pablo Ruiz—led the concert.

The jazz sisters Andrea and Carla Motis were also at the scene, as well as their guests Josef Traver and Anastasia Ivanova from Moscow.

The musicians grouped up to perform On the Sunny Side of the Street, a jazz tune originally composed by Jimmy McHugh in 1930.

These musicians brought jazz in the air with their spectacular performance.

Andrea’s brilliance grew even further as she played a catchy, improvised rhythm in her solos.

She was able to deliver her part with such confidence and skill, all while displaying her passion as a jazz artist.

The rest of the band don’t want to fall behind either as they kept on playing their groovy tunes.

They kept the music as lively as possible with their foot-stomping tunes and coordinated rhythm.

The once-bustling street was surely mesmerized by this amazing, sophisticated groove that they had to stop and watch the rest of their performance. The trombone player took the spotlight after Andrea and charmed the crowd with her music.

Each of the musicians was able to have the opportunity to display their skills in their solos.

Even the guitarist Josef Traver got the chance to show off his smooth guitar riffs! That jazz band was certainly the sunny side of the street in Sant Andreu! The musicians were able to express their passionate music and everyone listening in loved it.

Although some people love jazz music, it’s still something of an acquired taste.

Even so, those who love jazz know how stimulating it can be. This genre of music focuses more on the freedom of expression of the artists, which means there are almost no rules when it comes to playing. SAJB wants to emphasize that so more people could appreciate this genre. So if you haven’t heard jazz before, why not give this a try?
