Have you ever noticed that ice skaters seem to be getting younger and younger? Today, it’s common to find videos of children 5, 6, and 7 years old doing things we, as adults, can only dream of doing. I don’t know about you, but my experiences in an ice rink didn’t go quite as planned.
Not only do these tykes skate super-fast but they do a ton of cool tricks. There’s no question they’ve put in a lot of long hours practicing. Many of these kids are truly amazing. That’s the case with one young girl whose performance on the ice was so spectacular, you could almost call it enchanting.
Her name is Kamila Valeryevna Valieva
From Russia, she’s become a showstopper when it comes to ice skating. In 2017, a video of her performing sent chills down the viewers’ spines. To date, it’s racked up more than 250,000 views. Since then, she’s gone on to compete in the 2019 Junior Grand Prix Final, 2020 Junior World, and the 2020 Russia Junior championships.
Kamila’s 2017 performance was spectacular
At the start of the video, you see this young girl on the ice wearing what could be described as a “genie costume.” Initially, she stands off to the side, talking with a woman. We’re presuming this is her coach, providing some last-minute instructions and encouragement. It’s interesting how she looks so tiny and frail while talking to her coach but once on the ice, she commands attention.
She’s ready to perform
Kamila skates out to the center of the ice, positioning herself to start her routine. As you look at her face, you can tell she’s concentrating really hard. She might be young, but this girl takes her art seriously. Remember, in Russia, she’s a standout favorite and for good reason, as everyone is about to witness.
The arena is eerily quiet
It’s so quiet, you could hear a pin drop. And then…the music starts. The song has an enchanting yet lyrical quality to it, just like Kamila. She starts with a perfect triple spin. She lands it with grace, moving on to her next move…another triple spin. Everything she does is fluid and beautiful.
She glides so effortlessly
Her footwork and arm extensions are nothing short of spectacular. It’s easy to see she feels 100 percent confident on the ice. She makes every move look so easy but we know they’re not. Kamila pulls off some pretty impressive moves, ones you’d expect to see from a much more experienced ice skater.
This is a fantastic routine
Whether you’re a hardcore fan of ice skating or you only watch it when there’s nothing else on, you have to give credit where credit’s due. She has some real talent that’ll take her far in her career if that’s what she chooses to do. And from what we hear, she’s sticking with it.
What a perfect distraction
At a time when the world is facing a difficult challenge, it’s nice to have a distraction. This video of Kamila is ideal. While the music is soothing and relaxing, her moves are precise and exciting. What a great combination. She might be young, but this girl is incredible.
