One of the most somber and memorable moments at a wedding has to be when the bride and groom get to dance with their parents for the last time.
The resulting dances usually involve some warm hugs and a few salty tears!
The original reason behind father-daughter dances has slightly changed over the years, but it’s still meaningful!
On Brides.com, they say:
“Initially, in the previous era, the father would have the first dance with his daughter and then ‘give her away’ to her husband,” wedding planner Alicia Mae explains. The father would demand a final dance before giving their daughters to their new man (often a stranger). Then the bride and groom would have their first dance. “As culture evolved, many couples opted for the first dance to be theirs,” Mae says. “Now, you will find the father-daughter dance taking place right after the newlywed’s first dance.”
The emotional moment has been one of significance and substance for quite some time!
As all things do, however, it has changed over the years.
One video shows a hilarious example of just how fun AND meaningful the dance can be!
There are about as many ways to do a wedding as there are people in the world! Some couples want all black and white and imagine it being as formal as possible while others prefer a more laid-back approach to things. This bride adopted something “in the middle” of those!
She starts off dancing with her dad to a slow song.
The two stand there and the bride looks absolutely stunning!
As the music starts, they just sit there and sway, sharing a private conversation and maybe a joke or two. Things seem pretty formal and seem to be talking about the big day going on around them.
It’s clear that dad is happy to see his daughter flourishing on her big day!
Before she goes off to live her life with someone else, however, dad had something planned – and it involved his daughter. The slow song suddenly stops and something distinct happens, causing you to think that there is a problem – there isn’t! They must have something up their sleeve they’ve been planning!

The bride and her dad split up and start dancing to their own tune, then hip hop music starts blaring and they Tootsie Roll and laugh like there is nobody else around!
They are clearly having fun – so much fun that someone else wants to join!
Mom wanted to hop in on the action!
As she jumps in, she hits the Quan even throws in a quick “whip and nae nae” for good measure.
The original somber moment between the bride and her dad is gone, but they shared a fun one as well.
Seeing people add their own style to things is one of the best parts about going to weddings! These people just happened to go viral for their special touches.
