Often the street presents itself as the best venue for music and talent.
When someone takes their talent to the streets, it’s always a pleasant and welcome surprise for the public.
It’s not uncommon to see people performing open-air, whether it be for personal pleasure or busking with a goal in mind. Luckily, we also have the internet to also help elevate these talented souls into a position of recognition and fame. It’s as easy as someone snapping a video, and then the rest is history!
Today’s talent comes to us from the streets of California, in San Luis Obispo.
A talented young man named Lowe de Leon completely changed the atmosphere when he decided to take a break from shopping and grab a microphone for a round of karaoke.
When the opportunity arises, some take it fearlessly—and that’s just what this man did!
Lowe de Leon shared his heart and vocal talent with the world when he decided to take on Queen’s very epic “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
And much to the delight of onlookers and passersby, he absolutely nailed it in this video!
Queen’s dramatic and legendary 1975 anthem is a six-minute blend of rock and opera, sealing it in as one of thew most memorable ballads of all time.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” has earned its reputation as a timeless song–it was even called Song of the Millenium in the year 2000 and was the number one song of all-time in the Guinness Book of World Records.
But where did all that wild success come from?
Aside from the music, it just hits differently.
It’s a song that can be highly personal or shared with a group. It’s one of those songs that have a rare effect on people, instantly magnetizing them in their steps.
According to Emmy-nominated composer, Irwin Fisch:
“An important reason that “Bohemian Rhapsody” resonates and has resonated for over 40 years is that it embodied something very intense, which is Freddie Mercury’s personality and life. That record is an oral extension of Freddie Mercury’s self-consciousness without shame. Its music in some ways the sensibilities are out of the closet. As a performer, there hadn’t been a Freddie Mercury before Freddie Mercury.”
And there surely hasn’t been another Lowe de Leon! His rendition of the iconic hit has the crowd cheering.
The video features the man stepping up at the farmer’s market to take on the last karaoke song of the night.
He seems quiet and unassuming as the DJ queues the opening of Queen’s classic. After the interlude, Leon’s smooth voice slides in to take the place of Freddy Mercury—and he flawlessly embraces the task!
Lowe’s undeniable vocal skills are quick to captivate.
As he moves through each phase of the song, seamlessly assuming a wide range of notes, a crowd of happy faces and smiles gather around him.
This street performance is a memorable one! And since being uploaded to YouTube, it has received over two million views and 34,000 likes. He writes in his description of the video:
“Was supposed to be shopping grapes and strawberries…but one good friend suggested to take the street down. It’s the first time I sang in the streets of the US.”
