In the 2017 USA Grand Nationals Rising Star Divisions, one couple emerged victorious after they captured everyone’s attention with their unique dance routine. They were Ken Rutland and Bryn Anderson. Before that, they were first called on stage, and as they made their entrance, you could already see the two oozing with confidence. With everyone’s eyes focused on them, Wild Cherry’s “Play that Funky Music” suddenly played in the background.

With that, they showed off their original routine which left everyone surprised

Their intro was some sort of a stop dance where Rutland would only move with the sound of the trombone and his partner Bryn with the higher pitched trumpet. When the music was starting to get a little livelier, their personalities have changed to a much brighter mood as well.

With fluid movements and a funky tune, surely everyone can’t take their eyes off this couple. They put in their own spin to their routine, which makes it even more interesting.

At the time, Rutland and Anderson were only dancing partners for a year still. However, watching their dance makes it feel like that they’ve been partners forever. Their chemistry is just too strong together, that it’s like they share the same mind.

Their movements are so refined and synchronized that you would never tire of watching them. Furthermore, as they do their routine, they’re also mouthing the song’s lyrics at the same time. You could see how much the two were having fun while dancing.

Anderson started dancing as early as 12 years old. In fact, she has studied Contemporary and International Latin, Ballet, and Jazz dances. She liked a lot of dance genres, but West Coast Swing has captured her heart the most. On the other hand, Rutland started with dancing Hip Hop and couples dancing only in 2011. He also has experience in Salsa, Bachata, and Kizomba and was introduced to West Coast Swing in 2015.

With their mutual love of West Coast Swing, it must have been fate that they met each other in 2016, and they have been dancing together since then. They became a formidable duo and have racked up titles and awards in the Rising Star Division. No wonder their chemistry is great.

Su rutina original les ganó el primer lugar en ese evento.
