Bringham Young University has done it again with another amazing cover of a soul-touching song. This time its the popular gospel song “I Can Only Imagine”
For those that don’t know, Bringham Young has an amazing music department, and even more amazing all female A Capella called BYU Noteworthy. Their YouTube channel has thousands of subscribers and millions of views per video. Keep in mind, this isn’t a band, its a group of talented singers with no instruments, so having that kind of following is impressive.
The women are such talented singers that they have won multiple awards and even appeared on shows like “The Sing-Off”. All nine members are members of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and they often show their faith by singing covers of popular gospel songs and music.
This cover in particular is captivating, not just in the way that their voices form one cohesive sound, but also because of their location. Noteworthy is based in Utah which means there is a lot of beautiful nature areas to explore and shoot videos for their songs. This beautiful park is the perfect backdrop for this song.
The song starts out very simple with just one singer, hitting each note of the opening verse perfectly.
It doesn’t take long before she is joined by a couple others with equally powerful voices. Before we’re even a minute into the song other voices are harmonizing and building on the single voice to create something amazing.
With the curliest hair of the group, there is one voice that stands out from the crowd, and our attention is brought to her towards the beginning. She sings most of the lyrics in another verse but her real time to shine comes when she belts out the chorus with her powerhouse voice. Though she may look small, her voice is big and is perfect for hitting the high notes, the runs, and every other small detail of the song that makes it complete.
She doesn’t mean to steal the show- but she does.
But this is still a group effort and obviously she wouldn’t be where she is without every one of the girls standing beside her. Their voices are so in sync and perfect its hard to believe that they’re college students and not professionals.
The fact that look so happy singing the word of God is another just another reason this video is so great. Unfortunately the song does have to come to an end, but luckily for us there are hundreds of videos from Noteworthy to watch all day long.
